ReplyDeleteSome Key Scenes that Jump Out at Me-
ReplyDeleteWhen Kirsten Dunst's character goes crazy because she knows she'll never turn into a women. She goes hysterical about how they dress her as a doll and cuts off her hair ... only to have it grow back seconds later.
This shows how vampires live eternally in the state in which they were transformed.
Also the scene where Tom Cruise drinks the blood of the dead children...
These are just off the top of my head...I'll have to re watch the movie over break.
I thought each group had separate movies? How is it that group 2 is watching our movie too?
ReplyDeleteI also think that the scence where Lestat drinks the dead boys' blood stands out. We could present on the significance of living blood vs. dead blood. It's especially interesting since blood is supposed to be "liquid life," so it's weird to think of "dead life." Also, there is an earlier scene where Lestat kills a rat, drains its blood, then gives the blood to Louis. Isn't that dead blood, or is it still alive because it is so fresh?
ReplyDeleteHey guys =)
ReplyDeleteOk, so I have been super busy and have not gotten the time to sit down and watch it yet. I plan on watching it this weekend. Kimmy and Kara your ideas sound great! We can find a way to incorportate those into our presentation. I will be more of help after I watch the movie.
Have people not been posting because of spring break or because no one has a better scene in mind to do our presentation on?
ReplyDeleteI like the scene where Kristen Dunst's character goes crazy, also when Tom Cruise drinks the blood of the dead children. Those are my two favorite scenes. Does anyone else have ideas to what we can focus on?
ReplyDeleteIt seems like were all focusing on the same scenes so that's good. Now that break is over (Ugh) I'm sure we'll be able to be more focused.
ReplyDeleteKara, that is really cool, your idea or "dead Blood." I didn't even think about it before that the rat is dead. What I did like though from that scene is that Brad Pitt is still reluctant to kill other humans so he drinks the blood of rats and what not.
I'm assuming since we are group one, we are presenting on Wed.
I'd preffer to get this done that day also. I have an event Friday that I'm running and well, I can make class if it's neccessary, but right now I'm not planning to attend class on Friday.
Kimmy
Sorry I havn't been on here in a while. I'm been studying bio all break but i did get a chance to watch the movie and I took a few notes on some components that I thought were important.
ReplyDelete- Super strength: Lustat (Tom Cruise) moved the top of a coffin w/ one hand. He didn't even use his palms, just his fingertips.
- They drink blood from animals as well.
- Some vampires have the ability to read other's minds.
- Vampires are very sexual creatures. Lustat suck blood from a woman's breast.
- Crucifixes, steaks, and garlic were only considered myths and did not apply to them.
- Unlike any other vampire movie, Dracula was just a myth. They didn't consider him as being the great vampire as other movies have.
- Drinking "dead" blood could kill them.
- They watched Nosfaratu
Pierre, I too noticed that they watched Nosferatu. However, I took it as a nod to classic vampire films rather than something significant to "Interview With a Vampire" that we could present on. If anyone can think of a reason why it is important, that could be a really cool way to build on the "play within a play" idea.
ReplyDeleteAs you said, vampires do have strong ties to sexuality. Even more than just drinking blood from a woman's breast, the way that Lestat drinks from Louis's neck is also filled with sexual tension. In fact, their whole relationship has strong romantic and sexual undertones. The little girl even goes so far as to address them as "Mother" and "Father," suggesting that they are in a marriage-like relationship and managed to produce offspring in their own way. Note also that the little girl becomes frustrated with being forever young because she wants to be a sexually mature woman.
All of these ideas are great. Pierre and Kara, I also thought it was interesting how they watched Nosfaratu. We can definitley use that in our presentation since we have watched that in our class. We are going to have to pick the scenes we really want to focus on. It is hard because there are so many different ways we can go with this movie.
ReplyDeletehaha so I definitely have been writing on the other one. Funny thing though people have been agreeing with some of the stuff I've said and no one realized I wasn't in that group. Anyways, I posted 2 blogs to the other groups. I would post them on here but it wouldn't really make much sense now since one of them applied to what someone there posted.
ReplyDeleteI'm actually in the middle of watching it again because I watched it before break and didn't have time to get on at all last week, so I'm sorry for that. But I thought it was very interesting that drinking dead blood would kill them. It doesn't matter much now that we know what scene we're doing our presentation on, but I figured I would try and "catch-up" on OUR blog. I'm kind of excited about this presentation/paper...I'm not sure why haha so far Dracula has been the one book that has kept my attention and this movies pretty good
ReplyDeleteSloane I completely agree about everything you have said lol. I am going to watch the movie again to see if anything different stands out to me this time around. I definitley thought it was interesting about how drinking dead blood would kill them. It should be a fun presentation to give =).
ReplyDeleteI think that the tie ins to sexuality and staying the state you are turned into a vampire have a lot that can go hand in hand and be talked about.
ReplyDeleteWe can tie in all Kara said about the sexual tension between characters...
Loui and Lasats relationship, the mother and father aspect
Louis and Caludia
Lousi and Armand
It is interesting how gender does not seem to be a factor, they refer to their significant others as "companions". Claudia thinks Louis will choose Armond over her, and then she takes a female companion.
We could tie in all the sexuality to how it builds to the frustration that Claudia will never be sexually mature. Then she goes crazy!
Remember we are meeting today at 7 30! Hicks!
Kimmy
Kimmy,
ReplyDeleteI really really like your idea. I think that is a great idea..we can tie all the ideas we have together into one. I love the idea of building up the frustration Claudia has until she expoldes. This is going to be great =). See you guys at 7:30 in Hicks =)
Candice
my meeting got changed from 6-8 to 7-8 but I'll be there as soon as I get out. And it moved right across from hicks so I wont be forever late
